The UNIST Typhoon™ EL is a minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) system designed for integration with electric automatic drilling units (ADUs) used in the aerospace industry. It delivers a controlled amount of lubricant directly to the cutting tool to improve hole quality, extend tool life, and reduce fluid consumption.
With its advanced lubrication control, the Typhoon™ EL allows fluid output rates to be adjusted throughout the drilling cycle. It also offers optional features for monitoring pump operation and controlling a vacuum system to remove chips during drilling operations. Its compact industrial design facilitates integration with automated drilling equipment.
Unlike the Typhoon™ and Typhoon™ SP systems designed for pneumatic drilling units, the Typhoon™ EL is designed for integration with electric drilling equipment. This configuration allows lubrication to be adapted to different stages of the drilling cycle by adjusting fluid output according to application requirements.
The system uses UNIST MV positive-displacement pumps to deliver precise and repeatable amounts of lubricant. Its advanced control capabilities allow fluid delivery to be adjusted during drilling operations, helping reduce lubricant consumption while maintaining appropriate lubrication conditions for different cutting tools and materials.
The Typhoon™ EL can also be equipped with optional monitoring devices to verify pump operation and provide system feedback. An optional vacuum shutter valve is available to control a vacuum source for chip removal during drilling operations.
With these capabilities, the Typhoon™ EL provides a lubrication solution suited to aerospace manufacturing environments requiring precise control and integration with automated equipment.
Drilling with electric automatic drilling units (ADUs)

The Typhoon™ EL features two integrated handles for easy handling and transportation. Its design allows the system to be conveniently moved and positioned during installation or maintenance.

The Typhoon™ EL is designed for quick and easy priming of the lubrication circuit. This feature allows the system to be prepared efficiently during initial setup or following certain maintenance procedures.

The Typhoon™ EL features a compact, rugged industrial enclosure designed to withstand demanding operating conditions. Its durable construction helps ensure reliable performance in aerospace manufacturing environments.

An optional pump flow sensing system allows pump operation to be monitored. It provides feedback to verify that the positive-displacement pumps are completing their lubricant delivery cycles.

An optional vacuum shutter valve allows a vacuum source to be controlled for removing chips generated during drilling. This feature facilitates the integration of chip removal into automated drilling operations.

An optional low-level switch is available to monitor the amount of lubricant in the reservoir. Consisting of a float and switch, it provides a signal when the fluid level reaches a predetermined threshold.

The Typhoon™ SP can be used with UNIST Coolube® cutting lubricants. Made from renewable plant-based resources, these biodegradable lubricants are designed to provide effective lubrication while reducing the use of traditional cutting fluids. Applying small amounts of lubricant helps minimize fluid residue on tools, workpieces, and chips while reducing overall lubricant consumption.
UNIST offers a lifetime warranty on Typhoon™ SP system pumps when used exclusively with Coolube® lubricant, in accordance with the manufacturer's warranty conditions.

The standard Typhoon™ is designed to simultaneously lubricate the cutting tool and pneumatic motor of automatic drilling units (ADUs). It is ideal for applications requiring lubricant delivery to both components. The system retains a portable design with independent air and fluid adjustments and built-in hose storage.

The Typhoon™ SP is a compact version designed exclusively for cutting tool lubrication with pneumatic advanced drilling units (ADUs). Unlike the standard Typhoon™, it does not include an air motor lubrication circuit. Its ergonomic design, independently adjustable air and fluid flow rates, and built-in hose storage make it a practical solution for applications requiring cutting tool lubrication only.
